I assume the issue is backing up of HPFS partitions. If so, I use Power Quest's Drive Image Version 5.0, booted from a floppy. Unfortunately Symantec has purchased Power Quest & the newest version of Drive Image no longer supports HPFS partitions. If you can get a copy of Version 5, it should do the trick. There might be a HD size limitation. My drive is 80 GB & I am not encountering any difficulties.

The xcopy /h/o/t/s/e/r/v may do the trick.

Info-zip will back up/restore a complete hard drive.
Boot from floppy, and use the command:
zip -r -S d:\drivec.zip c:/*
To zip the entire drive to the d:\drivec.zip
To use the zip, again boot from floppy. Format the hard drive (in the same format as the .zip was made), and unzip the .zip file. The .zip can be put on a cd-rom.
