Comment:

My system board on a compaq proliant 2500 died and I had to put the drives on a proliant 5000. After configuring the system for O/S2 Warp it starts to boot up and loads a number of the drivers but after it loads the Cheyenne driver (I am assuming its for ArcSolo backup) it locks and just sits at a blank screen with a blinking prompt. How can I bypass these files that look to be locking it up? (ala F8 in Windows)

During boot, when the little while box appears in the corner, press Alt-F2, and you will be able to watch the drivers load one at a time; the last one loaded before the hang is causing your problem; rem it out in the config.sys file and see what happens. (To do that, you need to boot from utility diskettes or other emergency diskettes. JAA

Hi,

This behavior (black screen with blinking cursor) is normally related with the video driver or some other failure in the PMShell startup. Are you using the VGA driver?

Perry.

When OS/2 begins to boot and you see a little white bar (boot blob) in the upper left hand corner, immediately press Alt-F1 and you'll get the recovery choices screen. From there you can go to a Command prompt, load a generic VGA driver, or load the maintenance Desktop along with several options.
