Comment: My sister has a used Gateway 2000 E3000. She is having severe problems and I can't seem to figure it out. I'm really just a novice. It all seem to start when we downloaded a driver for her printer from Lexmark. It alson won't recognize her cd rom anymore. When she boots up it goes to the bios only. She has gotten messages like Invalid VXD dynamic link call from Vwin32 (01) +00000714 to device 0009 service 1. Windows configuration is invalid. Run windows setup again to correct. If you continue running your system may become unstable. Cross linked files. directory tree to deep or to many files exist for scandisk to examine this drive (drive c). Fat entry for cluster 1920234543. Invalid long file name entry. Scan disk detected an invalid Long Filename entry on the drive but was unable to fix. run scan disk for windows (C) Data error while reading Fat entry for cluster 2032165729. This error prevents scan disk from fixing this drive (C).Scan disk Long filename.Scan disk a data error while writing to the root directory. this error prevents scan disk form fixing this drive. File allocation table bad, drive c. Windows 98 detected drive c doesn't contain valid Fat or Fat32 partition. Warning: windows has detected a registry/configuration error. We have tried so many things and nothing seems to work. It runs scan disk then it runs scan registry says it corrects the problem finally but then it just starts everything all over again. Can anyone help us with this? Would greatly appreciate it. This is her first computer and she is really depressed that it might be no good! Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Okay, here's the problem. I am having the same problem today. Seems my girls, just LUV, AIM, and this is where it all started. I suspect that it is a registry problem now. Seeing as AOL in ALL of its forms, just loves to muck with the registry. Now I am attempting to get into Safe Mode, remove any Network Adapters that may have been erroneously added by anything my daughters may have done. If that doesn't work, I'll run "SCANREG" from command prompt, (C:\Windows\Command) and see if I can restore the registry from a couple of days agos. That's when all of this crap started to happen. AOL SUCKS! Make no mistake, this IS a REGISTRY problem, not hardware.

Reply: (edit)You are talking about AOL. She does not use AOL. But do you think the registry could also be her problem. Could use all the help I can get. Thanks
