I have a dell running os/2 that is being
use as a print server for a digital copier. I
bought the system used (the dell's nic
card matches the copiers nic card). The
problem I have is I have no back-up disks
or manuals for the software and
operating system running on the dell. The
dell starts up and runs in the bios (which I
have no password for) then the print
server starts up then blanks out the
screen. I need a way to back-up the drive
(full copy) and put on another drive for the
future. The dell and it's current drive is
going on 4 yrs. old. All I want is
something in the future to use if this drive
fails. Looking for any help you can give on
os/2. We work on PC's and Macs. Thanks

It is possible to reset the BIOS password (and reset the BIOS to its default settings) by setting a jumper on a mainboard for a few seconds and put it back in place (most of the times there are three connections, let's say the jumper is on pin 1-2, put it on 2-3 for a few secs and then put it back on 1-2, but this can differ per mainboard, refer to your mainboard manual for more information).
Anyway, imho the easiest way to backup OS/2 partitions is by putting both harddisks in the computer. Create a DOS bootfloppy and put Ranish Partition Manager (http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/) on it. Ranish Partition Manager allow you to transfer complete partitions to another harddisk. Check if the bootflag is enabled on the right partition on the harddisk you copy to afterwards. After that remove the old disk and try to boot the new one and look if everything works OK. If it works you should have a reliable backup.
Older IDE drivers sometimes have problems with new drives, so it is advisable to download the latest IBM IDE or Dani's drivers.

Yes it's a oce 3165 DAC. The dell is running os/2 version 3. The set up is password locked and is used with the software I guess, so I don't want to remove the jumper. The bios has the disk drive locked out. So I still don't know of a way to back up drive.
Any help from this group would be a big help, as the suppier no longer supports this version. It's on version 2.3, (the current version is 5.xx) I do not need the upgrade, way to much $$$$.
OS/2 Dude any ideas.
Thanks
