This is almost as hot as the Windows 9x area! What the hell is OpenVMS? If it's so big and great then how come this is the first time I've ever heard of it? and no, I'm not an idiot who's been living in a hole for most of my life.

No you are not an idiot, you just probably spend most of your time in the micro world. Very few people know of VMS that I'm aware of. I'm only aware of it because I like computer history and I have friends who have used it or are still using it. I think a friend of mine who works for CarFax uses it at work. Don't hole me to that though. I am very tempted to get my hands on a VAX and get a personal copy of VMS, I think you can get a license for personal / home use for like $20. Don't hold me to that either. I think VMS is more along the lines of a database os like many of IBM's OSs, i.e. OS/400, OS/390 etc. vs a tree structure like Unix/Novell/Microsoft xxx.
