Hi guys. I'd start from the beginning. I'm a newbie on OpenVMS. I've installed TCPIP_Services 5.3 under OpenVMS on my server. But here is a trick, I can ucx ping all servers located under my local LAN (couple of more Windows computers on the LAN) and even internet addresses by their IP addresses but no DNS hostname resolution is defined. Background, I'm under router on powerline, which is connecting me to Internet and act as an DHCP server. I've obtained DNS server(s) IP addresses and hostnames from router DB and enter it into Bind Resolver under SYS$MANAGER:TCPIP$CONFIG as follows: Domain: /nodomain Retries:4 Servers: NS1.MINDSPRING.COM, NS2.MINDSPRING.COM
Under sho host NS1 and NS2 servers are showing their IP addresses, I've typed it in, but nothing seems to be happening. I still able to ping an IP addresses but not names?
Any ideas, guys?
Problem 2: CAuse I'm in my local windows network I do not have any domain names defined. But by typing mistake, I've entered a single charachter as a domain name, and it seems to be populated into DOMAIN and BIND resolver record. I've read a manual and tried a command TCPIP> SET NAME_SERVICES /NODOMAIN and tried it, but instead of resetting DOMAIN name to ""(NOTHING) domain name was set as /nodomain. Is there any way to resolve that through command line, cause looks like I couldn't use my editor properly - refer to problem 3 Problem 3: Then I do sh term it is showing me DEVICE_TYPE: UNKNOWN and try to invoke and editor returned a result as SYS$INPUT must be supported CRT. Pls note, I'm worling from Alpha Operator console. After I've tried to set set term _OPA0 /device_type=vt100, I was able to invoke an editor, but my keyboard on arrow up and arrow down and some other keyboard buttons return a set of ANSI charachters, so I hasn't been able to edit any file (still can add some some stuff at the end of the file). Set /interactive option didn' help either.
Thanks a lot, I actually found, what my problem was in Problem 1. After settings up DHCP client manually (not throught automatic settings) all started working now.
Problem 1: If you want to use DHCP to set the interface on your VMS machine, you had to anable the client - but you found that already. This solved your second problem as well (it is a windows problem, not a VMS one) problem 3: You need to take a look in the console (AKA SRM) - at the >>> prompt type SHOW KEY*. There must be some environment variable stating KEYBOARD type. It can be PC (the PC-style keyboard) or LK411 9or a differtent number). The latter is a VMS-style keyboard. Be sure to have this setting correct. (If you have a PC connected to the console port, the right setting depends on your terminal emulator)
