I need to increase the buffer for the command line so that I may send a longer string. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is you problem but if you want a command to be longer than 80 chars try an BLANK at the end of the line and an _ (underscore).
If this is not what you are looking for please clarify. Regards Klaus
It is a - (Dash) at the end of a DCL line for a continuation. (No $ on the next line in a batch file). On a VT terminal or emulator, if you type past column 80, it should wrap to the next line. If you want to see the line, or edit it, would could switch to 132 column mode (SET TERM/WI=132) to get 132 columns.
