Comment:
I have been trying to find a cross-compatibility list of
drives which equates manufacturers' products with
Digital's part numbers (because third party manufacturers
are generally cheaper).

Sometimes the manufacturers do it for you: for example,
the 4.3 GB Seagate Barracuda ST34371W is marked also
RZ1CB-BS. Otherwise trial and error is necessary - for
example the Seagate Cheetah 36GB ST336607LW allows
me to install and boot OpenVMS on it, but I cannot find a
cross-compatibility list of drives
(not mounted in StorageWorks enclosures) anywhere
which says that it might. Has anyone seen such a useful
list?

Strictly, of course, this question relates to DEC hardware
rather than OpenVMS proper, but there is no separate
forum for that.
