We have an old, yet important, Digital Alpha 2100 server running with Digital Unix 4.0D. Since the HDD is near its end, I ordered a new identical HDD. Now my question is how to move the data from the defect HDD, to the new one and make it run fine again.

Tx in advance

owkee, I've learned this in the meanwhile.

I've got 2 disks, 1 called RZ0A and one RZ2A (bad mfr).
I've tarred (tar cvfz) the RZ2A disk to a file on the RZ0A disk. Now I need to mount the new disk, create the filesystem, and restore the tar file back to RZ2A. How do I do the last part?

Greetz again...

Owkee, did it!

newfs -m 99 /dev/rrz2a
mount /dev/rz2a /pc_more

tar -zxvf filename.rar /pc_more

Done!
