I have matrix printer connected on terminal server (digital) over rs232. terminal and alpha are conn. over fiber. how can i check connection between my alpha and this printer? It should work, beacuse startup_vms.com script and lat_startup script is well configured, but the fact is that copy command to this device don't give me any result. any idea?

Hi, I do not know what type of digital terminal server you have but all terminal servers have built diagnostics. Use the test
port diagnostics to test the port. It will print a pattern on your printer. If this works then concentrate on our LAT queue setup

First thing I always do, is create a service on the terminal server with no parts defined, something like LADS9 i.e. Los Angeles, DECserver, number 9. This allows you to easily verify that the T/S is up and running by simply running SYS$SYSTEM:LATCP and doing a SHOW SERVICE.

Second, you say you are trying to do a COPY to the printer. This is a good test, however, confirm the following:
1. That you are doing your copy to the correct LTA port number.
2. Confirm that you have defined the port as being a /APPLICATION, and that you have given it the CORRECT port name i.e. Logon to the terminal server and confirm that the port name is the same as what you have defined it to be.
3. While on the T/S, verify that the port is set to REMOTE, as this allows the VMS system to access the port.
4. Make sure that you hardcode the baud rate to the speed that the printer expects, probably 9600, and disable AUTOBAUD.

This should get you working, then you can define a terminal queue.
