We had a reboot on the server and since then we have been unable to ftp onto the vms server or send mail from it. I have checked in UCX to see if service is enabled and it is. Tried disabling and then enabling to no avail. Please help. Many thanks.

iamtopgeezer,
It is difficult to diagnose these problems remotely. My first question is whether FTP works locally within the node. My second question is whether PING work to the nodes outside the OpenVMS system?

Thanks for the reply. Ping work fine using name in dns and ip address. ftp works within the node and between this vms server and another vms server. Two things i am having issues with are:-
i. I cannot delete any mail or even send mail from it ( Iwas able to before the reboot). i type in mail followed by READ /NEW and it just sits there doing nothing.
ii). I cannot ftp onto the server from my pc.
Our network team says that it makes a connection but then is terminated by the server, so its not a network team issue. Passing it on basically.
Any other thoughts or tries would be great. Thanks again.

I solved the mail problem by renaming the mail.mai;1 file and this in turn created a new one. But I am still having problems trying to ftp onto the server.

As usual: was ftp from PC working before boot ?
Is the PC ftp client the same as before ?
Some graphical MSwindow ftp clients do not like the VMS TCPIP services ftp servers format of directory listing, and some try to start with a change directory and list, which, if it fails, leads to errors.Joseph Huber, http://www.huber-joseph.de
