OS: OPen VMS ver 7.2
CPU/Ram: 256MB
Product: DEC
Comment:

We recently bought a refurbished Alpha station 255 for our DCS.

Machine has 2 hard drive; one for system software and the other for application software.

Initaially the installtion of the VMS software on DKA0 failed due to defective blocks on that Hard drive. Application software installed OK on DKA100. We swapped DKA0 and DKA100 ID.

Loaded system software again and no errors were generated. Loaded application software on DKA100 successfully.

But on typing boot the system shows

' TRYING MOP BOOT' and does not boot.

I blieve there is something wrong with the boot sequence or flags. I will appreciate any instructions for me to boot my system since I am rusty on Open VMS.

There is a answer to a similar question at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/wizard/wi...

The message about "MOP" implies that the Alpha is trying to perform a network boot. "MOP" is a DEC network protocol for remote maintenance.

Your Alpha should be running the "SRM" console firmware. There are SRM console manuals online. Try http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/...

asackeyfio,

There is a good chance that you have lost the boot settings. Most commonly, this caused by a dead battery for the NVRAM.

You can boot the disk manually by entering a BOOT DKA0 at the >>> prompt. If the machine is autobooting, you will have to halt it first.

Some of the details differ by model. What model system do you have?
