My bonehead brother saved a MS Works Word Processor file with a .doc.wps extension to a floppy disk. When he saved it he may have saved as Word 97 (doc) type so he could work on it at school. Anyway, I don't know what happened but the file won't open and I can't copy it.
It's not infected with a virus and neither is the computer. When I try to open the file I get the message - Works cannot open" A:\filename.doc.wps." The file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or the file may be corrupt.
When I try to copy it I get the message Cannot copy filename.doc: Cannot read from the source file or disk. When I try to copy in DOS I get the message - Error performing inpage operation 0 file(s) copied. I've tried renaming the file, I've tried removing the .doc, I've tried removing the .wps and nothing works. All the other files on the disk work fine. I figure it must be the way it was saved. We only have Works on the home computer but the school computer has Word. So my brother has to save the Works file as a Word file using "save as type." I figure he probably saved the file as a word 97(doc) file then saved it again as works(wps) and then again as word97(doc).Anyway, is there a way to get this file open without having to buy any special software?

2 extensions for a file, it's a lot...!rename it with one extension and try to open it with notepad. If no result, report here plz. Thx.

I already tried that. I even tried using a hex editor but that didn't help too much. I tried opening it on another computer but that ddn't work.
I ran scandisk on the floppy disk and it did detect some bad sectors. After that, I was able to at least copy the file to my hard drive and open it in notepad. But everything is of course all jumbled/mixed up and it appears that parts are missing. Like some paragraphs aren't there or the end of sentences aren't there.

did u tried import it when u're in powerpoint or excel (a a picture)? but maybe ur file is really damaged, reporting to ur bad floppy support...
