Works is default app

Microsoft Windows 7 professional 64-bit

Specs: Windows 7
I have a brand new computer running Windows 7 Pro and Works pre-loaded. I have loaded my old 2003 Office and every time I try to open a file, Works loads as the default app. Even if I go into Word or Excel, and open a file, it's default file saving format is .wps, or Works. If I override that and save as a Word file, .doc, Works still comes up when I load the file the next time.

How do I stop Works from being the default? I suspect I can just delete Works, but I am nervous to do that in case I need it, or it screws something else up.

The problem you have is due to default Windows file associations. You need to read the following article and make changes as required..
