Works 7 - unable to edit new or existing docs

April 6, 2011 at 01:53:05
Specs: Windows XP
I'm no techie but not stupid either and have this problem I just can't solve - I opened an existing works 7 document and I can create a word document, delete letters/words, copy, paste but nothing on the main keyboard works, if I use the numberic kyeboard on the right I can get numbers 1-0 but that is all. As you can see by this message, my keyboard works ok, I can use spreadsheets, email, FB etc so no problem with the keyboard that I can see. I have scanned my pc - no issues there. The last known document that was created was on 22 March last - I have restored the system to that point but still has not solved the problem. I had previously backed up onto a USB but having tried using documents on that also, I still cannot type anything onto an existing or new work document. My pc came with works 7 loaded so I don't have a disk to reinstal. I cannot get any help from microsoft website. I do realise that there are newer versions of works but mine was working just fine and I don't know if I can just upgrade to a newer version. Don't know what else to do - any sensible suggestions welsome. Many thanks. (I have been notified that this is the best forum to post this question)

Many MS products have a "repair" option,
Goto Control Panel,
Add & Remove Programs,
Scroll down to the Works entry and see if there are two buttons, Change and Remove
Select the Change button and hopefully you will be offered the option to repair.

Might also want to update the keyboard drivers.
