Hi
Excel workbook A is set to manual calculation. Workbook B is set to Automatic calculation.
When I open workbook A and workbook B is already open then the automatic calculation seems to be applied to workbook A (so it opens and calculates straightaway without any prompt). Workbook A has lots of links (takes 5 mins to calculate) but no links to workbook B.
Is this normal? Its really annoying when I have a customer waiting.

Unfortunately it is normal. The automatic calculation option is set in the instance of the application not in the workbook.
When you open your workbook by double-clicking the file it will open in the same instance of excel that is currently running and therefore inherit the settings of the instance.
There is a work-around: If you open excel and then open the file from there each time, you will have a different instance of excel for each worksheet.
