MS Word and it's documents do not open Office XP has been working perfectly on Windows98se for about a year, however now, Word and Word documents will no longer open. When I try to open them I get the following message: CTFMON caused a general protection fault in module USER.exe at 0004:0000233e. Suprizingly, I see CTFMON at the top of the list in MSCONFIG, and I don't recall ever seing it on that list before now. If I disable it from MSCONFIG Startup list, it just comes back again. And, it is not in the Programs>StartUp list. The only entry there is MS Office. The other applications in Office XP (Excel,Access,PowerPoint,etc.) are unaffected, and are working fine. Also, I uninstalled Office XP and then installed it again, but I still have the same problem. Please advise. Thanks!

Type this into Google: "error USER.exe at 0004" or "MS Word error USER.exe at 0004" there seems to be plenty of ideas whether one will help I do not know but for good measure run Windows Update and Office Update, also run your spyware software if you possess any, if not I recommend Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3 and Ad-Aware SE Personal both are freely available over the Web.
