Ok, I installed Microsoft Word 2000 on the pc. That was fine. Went in created a document, saved the document. Later, I wanted to print the document so I went into the folder it was saved in and clicked on the document. A message came up that the document was locked by user HOME (which is the name of the pc here at the house) and that I can only view the document not make changes. I thought, "Ok, I just want to print it anyway." so I clicked to view and I get a message that winword.exe has caused an error and will not close. What the heck. I played with it for awhile and decided to reinstall word which I did and I stll get the messages. What the heck is wrong with Word and in the future how do I keep the lock thing from happening? Thanks in advance guys and gals!

As no expert has replied, I have a couple of suggestions:
Open the file in Word. Select File, Properties and see if you can change the attributes (not always possible).
Try doing a "Save As".
In the "Save As" screen, there is a Tools option. When you select it you get a drop-down menu with "General Options". When you select that, there is a check box at the bottom called "Read-only Recommended". Make sure that is not checked.Failing that, can you find the file in Windows Explorer, right click on it, select properties and change the attributes?
