Hi,
We recently upgraded our server and now 1 of my users has dozens of Word mail merge documents that will not open because the path to the data source has changed. I have been in similar situations in the past and Word would open up to an "unable to find data source" diaglog box from which you could redirect the document to the new data source file location. In this case Word just stops responding no matter how long I wait and the only thing I can do is CTR-ALT-DEl out of Word. I copied a couple of the documents to my laptop and when I opened the docments Word hung a little bit but eventualy allowed me to break the mail merge (won't be able to redirect the data source unless I was logged into the domain as her)
so I could return the document to her Home folder and let her rerun the mail merge. I am hoping to not have to go through that with all of the other documents. She is running Word 2002 on a XP Pro system and the data sources for the couple documnets I got to on my laptop were other Word docs which makes me wonder if we would be having this problem if the data sources were Access files. Any thoughts on the most efficient way to handle this or how to avoid such problems in the future would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

ok I'm a bit rusty - I haven't done a mail merge for about a year - but can't the merge "just" be recreated. Open word normally and create a NEW merge, point to the existing data source in the new location and then point to the existing formletter then run the merge
Hope it works, I'm off on hols
