OS: Windows SP SP2
CPU/Ram: 2.0 GHZ, 1 GB

When I tried to open a Word (MS Office 2003) document, I got
an error message saying
"The command can not be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK,
and close the dialog
box to continue" (see attached). But there isn't any dialog box open (as
far as I can tell), and
when I clicked OK, the message box went away and the document opened
anyway. Also, the behavior is
new, only started recently and not every time.

I'm guessing you didn't Google before asking this question, but in a couple of seconds I got lots of hits on that error.

Do you have a valid install of Microsoft Office, or did you install a trial version?
