Word has lost my work - stored as a .tmp file

April 28, 2012 at 12:01:36
Specs: Windows Vista
I have just completed a long Word document and save it. When I went back to it it was empty - Word had saved it empty (0 Kb) and generated a .tmp file in the folder I used for the document.

Why was this and can I open this file in any way to get my work back - it is worrying that Word 2007 can do this. Prior to me saving, Windows gave me this message when I tried to save the file:
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Word 2007"

I waited and then cancelled when I could, and saved the file - it seemed to save OK, but when I tried to retrieve it I found it empty with a file named WRD3871.tmp also added to the directory.

Is there any way for me to restitute this file?

Go here and follow instructions: http://www.ehow.com/how_6807866_rec...

Since you already know where the temp file is you can ignore the steps 1-3 on how to search for it.
