Hi, when i download an article and open it, it is written in some type of computer language, and there is a pop-up box called"file conversion-select the encoding that makes your document readable etc.". I acnnot find anywhere an "english" choice, and the "language" choice in "tools" is set at english already. What can i do??? Thanks

What is the extenstion of the downloaded file?
If it's ".wp" that's WordPerfect. If it's ".pdf" that's an Adobe Acrobat file. If it's ".doc" that's a Microsoft Word file. etc. etc.
Post back.

Hi, Bob, I don't know where to find the file extension. When I download a printed page, for example, the "file conversion" box pops up, with just the name of that particular download on it. But it always opens above the "Word" window, if that is any help. In fact, the pages I have been trying to download are "Word" documents, which are always garbled, and now sometimes "Adobe" documents, as well.

Try downloading the documents to a seperate folder on the hard drive. Right click - Save As - and point it to a folder.
Once it's saved on the hard drive, you can easily see the extension type. Make sure you have the "hide file extentions" box *un*checked in the Explorer View settings.
Then start the appropriate software program for the extention type and open the file. For instance, if it's a .pdf file, use the free Adobe Acrobat Viewer to open the file.
I'm not sure why you're having problems opening the files automatically, but I suspect that the file associations are screwed up in the Explorer settings.
Keep posting back. Better yet, post a link to a file you are having trouble with and I'll walk you through it.
Best Wishes,
Bob
