Here's my situation with 2 users where I work. When clicking on a link to a word document from the web, it opens up two MS Word windows, in front of the IE window, both of which open nothing and are just blank. The word document is opened in the IE Browser window. One of the MS Word windows is closeable, while the other will generate the "WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed" message (but this must be because the word document is still opened in the browser window..?). Running Windows 2000, MS Word 2000 (one user has office with sp3, the other has office 2000 w/SP2; for some reason when trying to install sp3 on her machine it gives the message "Service Pack cannot be applied." or something to that extent and that's it. and both run IE 6.0 w/ SP1)
I've tried things like removing/renaming the normal.dot template, though other users use the one on the network and works fine for them...updating their version of ie and ms office...and repairing/uninstalling/reinstalling office. None have worked.
At a road block as to how to get it back to normal where, when a word doc. is clicked on, it is opened right in the browser and no MS Word windows appear.
Thanks in advance and apologies for the long description.
