Word Document Will Not Print Completely

Microsoft Word 2007
September 30, 2009 at 07:56:44
Specs: Windows XP
Problem: I can’t get a word document to print entirely. It is a 52 page document that is 33,000 KBs. It contains text, pictures, tables, and graphs copied from excel. All pictures are compressed to web quality (smallest size). The file is in a network folder and I am trying to print to a network printer. Using the basic print command, the first 17 pages printed without any problems. I waited about 5 minutes and one more page printed. I cancelled the print job and tried printing the range 19-52. The print status changed to “Error” and word was not responding.

1. I tried copying the information from pages 19-52 into a new document and printing. The first 5 pages printed and the status changed to “Error.”

2. I tried printing from another computer and the status changed to “Error.”

3. I tried saving the file locally and printing. The print status shows “Error.”

4. I tried copying the information from a single page into a new document and printing. The status shows “Error.”

5. I can print a different word document from the same folder with no problem.

6. Other people on the network can print with no problem.

Hi,

From what you say, the problem is with the document itself, not Word, or your network environment.

When something similar has happened to me, Word freezing in a long document, the problem has been a table. The table looks alright, but there is something in it that stops Word.

Have you tried copying the whole document to a new blank Word document, (use copy and paste not insert file).

If that doesn't work, you could try deleting tables from the new copy of the document.

One symptom I experienced was that the faulty table would not accept any formatting changes. Changing text alignment for example, in a cell in the faulty table wouldn't change the alignment.

Regards

As Humar indicated, it sounds like something is corrupt in the file, probably after page 24 (19 + 5).

You said:

4. I tried copying the information from a single page into a new document and printing. The status shows “Error.”

Which single page did you copy?

Does that happen with any and all single pages, even though you can print 1 - 24 when printed as a group?

P.S. I'm guessing here, but I think the reason you got a pause after 17 pages is because the printer or print queue was processing the corruption later on in the document and was having trouble doing both things at once. In other words, the buffer got fried by the corruption. That might explain why you could print 19 - 24 before the corruption screwed up the printer - the buffer wasn't full.
