Word 2010 -- can't save - Please Help!

August 9, 2016 at 08:23:28
Specs: Windows 10
The add-in problem and fix does NOT work for me. I have repaired Office. Apparently, there are multitudes of others having this same problem and I also cannot understand why there isn't a fix for this from Microsoft. I am running Word 2010 on Windows 10. I am not anywhere close to being a person who can edit the registry. What am I supposed to do if I cannot solve this problem??? I should be able to save a document. What is happening???

What add-in and fix are you referring to? What exactly is the problem? Are you receiving any errors when you try and save a document?

More information would be helpful.

Sorry about that -- my post was in reply to others who weren't able to save a word document under any condition. But my post got moved by someone. The problem is: when I try to save a new document it freezes with the spinning blue circle forever. I have to start task manager and close Word. The suggestions to fix were disabling any add-ins which I did. To go to control panel and repair Office. Which I also did. And then some suggestions were to do some other things in the registry. I am not comfortable doing that at all. So I didn't do that. I'm wondering if I just go ahead and bite the bullet and upgrade to Word 2016 it will solve these issues. I don't know much at all about fixing these things in all different places of the computer. I just use Word for my job. I'm not a tech person at all! Just a Word user. Thank you for any help.

You could also try this page, which has a Fix-It program that may help

See the section with the heading Here's an easy fix

Also make sure Word is closed when you run the fix it.

I'm having the same issue. I've rewritten the same four pages five times today. If I walk away and the computer goes to sleep, Word closes and the "recovered" file when I reopen Word is from hours before. I turned on AutoRecover, turned on Auto Backups, and neither of those are saving the real-time version. I ran the fix Mike mentioned, then restarted, but still when I hit Save, nothing happens. It's got to be one of those stupid Microsoft updates for Windows 10 that no one tested on Word first..
