Word 2007 - open docs in new window

April 17, 2010 at 19:47:45
Specs: Windows 7
Hi, I'm using Word 2007 in Windows 7.
Previously, the default was that documents
opened in a new window. I loved this. With
the live-view taskbar, it meant I could
simply and easily navigate between open Word
docs by hovering my mouse over the MSWord
icon in the task bar, and then clicking the
appropriate document.

Somehow, this changed. Now all documents are
in one window, and now navigating amongst
them is an aggravating time-waste. I've tried
and tried and tried to fix this, but I can't
find the option to open my documents in a new
window anywhere. Please help!

The option to show all documents in separate Windows is here:
Click the Office button.
Select 'Word options' at the bottom of the Office button 'page'
In the Word Options dialog box, click on the 'Advanced' tab on the left hand side
Scroll down the Advanced tab window to the 'Display' section and check 'Show all windows in the Taskbar'
Click OK.
Restart Word.

I do not have Windows 7, so I don't know if this has any impact on this setting

Word 2007... I want to open documents sorted by date... not by name... this lets me go to my most recent documents easily... and if it is something I worked on last week, easy to find that too. (open recent documents only works in a limited way.. i might have recent documents all today's date) So I want to open my document file sorted by date like the good old days of Word 2003...
