I am a Word pro, been using it for years and years and I can normally make the program do whatever I want with impressive results. I DO NOT understand what the heck is going on. I am trying to format a document and when I select text and click clear formatting, nothing happens. I have set up styles and apply them, nothing happens. I am so frustrated! Please help with anything except the standard help, as I could bloody well write the standard stuff. I need help from someone who deeply understands why Word (which is my favourite program in the whole world) does the things it does.

What version of Word? Are you using the Reveal Formatting option? What format is the text in that you're trying to clear?

Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Yes, I have Reveal Formatting open. I use styles extensively but find Word has been getting more and more wonky with changing styles and automatic formatting - especially with numbered lists. I work with a bunch of Excel freaks and they all love it when Word screws me up...
The formatting was as follows:
Font:
(Default) Verdana
12 pt
Bold
Italic
Font color: Dark Blu
Language:
English (Canada)

Paragraph
Paragraph Style:
DocTitle2
Alignment:
Right
Indentation:
Left: 0"
Right: 0"
Spacing:
After: 6 pt

Table
Table Style:
Table Grid
Preferred Width:
7.2"
Options:
Don't resize to fit contents

Cell
and I was trying to change it to Normal. The selected text WAS in a table - do you thing that makes a difference? Why?
