Whenever I close a document, Word asks 'to save changes' - but no changes have been made. This only happens to about half the documents. Any help would be appreciated.

Are there any fields (such as date fields, perhaps) that get automatically updated when the doc is opened?

Yes, I have a document with a date field, but that document is not a problem.
However, your idea of something changing got me thinking.
I checked about 30-40 documents and realized that documents that asked me to save the changes, were documents with downloaded content.
Even though I still don't know the problem, I can fix the document so that annoyance is removed.
Thank you for your input.
