Comment:

When opening a word document from either the local hard drive or a network share, after the document has been completly opened, the hourglass flashes and I notice their is alot of network traffic. It seems as if the word document is being sent/recieved over the network. The amount of packets sent/recieved depends on the file size too.

This is causing word documents to be extremely delayed, effectively useless to use, and is causing alot of unusual network traffic.

This is the default office xp standard installation. We have norton antivirus corporate edition 8.0 with latest updates and realtime protection.

This problem is only affecting word 2002.

I "fixed" this by rebooting the server where the shared word documents are stored.

I went through so much trouble trying to troubleshoot this issue, when a simple reboot would have done it all along.
