Word 2000 (not responding)

Comment:
When I try to open Word 2000, one of two things happens. Either it attempts and fails to install an update, telling me I need to go to setup then repair, something I don't think is available on Vista. Or Word 2000 appears to open, only to freeze and say (Word is not responding). I assume the easy solution would be to reinstall Word 2000, but I have misplaced the cd... I have also read about the Normal.dot option, but again I can't make seem to make that work on Vista. Any solutions out there? I am a bit of a technophobe, be gentle. Thanks.
