As of last week, when I open word, the menubar and symbols are missing and I can't reset. deleting and reinstalling hasn't helped. I suspect that the problem lies in normal.dot file, have copied this from another pc but this didn't help. Any ideas greatly received.

I found this article on the Microsoft Database on missing menus, toolbars or setting not retained when you start Word:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q242368

This article includes the steps on how to make changes to registry keys. Hope it helps!
