Not sure of the problem here... I was at a buddy's tonight trying to fix this.
MS Word just would not load. So I tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling it. Still no go.
Tried again, this time manually removing registry entries for MS office, and removing the office directories from the hard disk.
It still freezes at the Word splash screen, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. all run as normal.
Each time it was the same thing. MS-Word froze at the splash screen.
I hit ctrl+alt+del, and I get a message that the system is "dangerously low on resources".
So, I went to MSConfig and removed anything that didn't have to start. Still didn't work, even tried setting the virtual memory settings myself, still hangs, same error all the time.I read something about a corrupt template file being a problem, but I deleted the MS Office folders before the last reinstall, so I think it has to be something else.
Help is most definitely appreciated.

Search for a file called 'normal.dot' - it's the blank template for a Word document. If it is damaged or corrupted, Word won't start.
Use System File Checker to replace it from the installation disk (Start > Run > SFC).
