Word 2000, Format menu disappeared

The format menu disappeared from the menu bar in Word 2000 today. (I think it happened after I tried to open an Office 2007 document and installed compatibility software or something).

I fixed it by deleting the normal.dot file.
I'm posting this in case someone else has the same problem.

There are several possible causes for this:

1.Word is running in full-screen mode.


2.A macro is running when you start Word.


3.Another program or Word add-in has modified the user interface.


4.The Windows registry key that stores the display settings for Word is damaged.
