Word 2000 Crashes at Startup

Comment:
Word 2000 suddenly started crashing at startup, apparently as Word is "requesting virus scan". System is clean - no viruses. I have attempted to "detect and repair", and have uninstalled and reinstalled Word several times with no change in behavior.
I can successfully load Word from the Run prompt (Run Winword -a), but this is a workaround. I know something is corrupted, just don't know what. Anyone else have this experience?

Check your windows startup folder to make sure that there isn't anything extra there that might be hosing up the program's initialization. We had this problem, and it turned out that Adobe Acrobat Reader had dumped a file in that folder. We removed the file and life was good again.

If you are running Norton AV go into Norton AV Options>Other>General and uncheck the box next to "Enable Microsoft Office Plugin" and see if that helps.
