Has any one had this problem. I have installed a copy of Office 2000 and Office XP on the same machine. Everything works well except Word. If I run XP and close it then run 2000, 2000 does it little install thing. If I close 2000 and open it it is fine. I then open Word 2002 it will want to do the short install thing. This will go on and on if you switch products. Is this normal and can this be stopped? The problem is you need the disks when it wants to install.

Why do you want two versions of Word, or even Office 2000 and Office XP, installed on the same system? To do so makes no sense whatsoever. You're asking for problems. Hopefully, you've installed each in separate directories.

I agree to some extent re. why have this. However, I have Office 2000 and 95 installed together. The why of this is that they do work differently.

Ex. I wrote my resume in Word 2000, then did a degrade to 95 version for mailing to anyone with a lesser version Word. Open that in Word 95 and it is incorrectly laid out, so needed correcting. I also have some Excel 95 workbooks which use features no longer supported since then, so again I need the older version.

So, there can be good reasons for retaining an older version, though I concede the differences between 2000 and XP are so small it doesn't make much sense here.

The question I would ask though, is when you installed XP, did it ask if you wished to keep the older version, and you told it YES? Also did you install XP to a separate folder, not using the default name? If you say No to either of those, then that is why you have problems now.
