Wingdings font

Specs: Windows Vista
I made a big mistake! I saved a document in Wingdings font, I thought it was like encrypting it. But today, when I opened it and tried to change it back, all I got was a bunch of boxes. Have I lost my entire document, or is there a way to change it back?

I was able to duplicate your problem in Word 2003.

I then DAGS on the issue and found this site:

I followed the instructions and recovered my document.

To run the macro, I opened my document, went to Tools...Macro...Visual Basic Editor and pasted the code in.

Note: As per the instructions, you must select the boxes before running the macro.

A 300 character document took about 8 secs, so I'm assuming a large document is going to take a while.

Good luck!

P.S. Put this in your back pocket just in case:

It apparently covers the same issue but the other site worked, so I didn't read this too carefully.

Thank you very, VERY much! I followed the instructions and I got my document back! It's a little messed up (missing apostrophes, and other punctuation), but I certainly can live with that!! It's readable! This was a creative little piece of casual writing that I had done off the top of my head - I didn't have it written down anywhere, or saved anywhere, and I would not have been able to re-create it - I spent 2 days looking on the web for answers...Needless to say, I thank you, it's very much appreciated!! :)

Glasd to have helped. Obviously, one would assume that the problem shouldn't exist in the first place - in fact I was a little surprised to find I could duplicate the problem so easily.

At least MS is aware and has a solution.
