✔ Best Answer
Best guess is you have some Merged Cells.

To UN Merge the cells, select all the cells,
on the Ribbon, Home Tab,
Under the Alignment Section,
Select, Merge & Center
Click on Unmerge Cells

Or, either your Ctrl or Shift keys are stuck.

What version of Excel are you running?

The random (and unwanted) selection of multiple cells in Excel 2007 & 2010 is a known issue. Might be an issue with 2013 also. Typically adjusting the zoom percentage solves the issue, at least temporarily.

Try the slider in lower right corner of the Excel window. Slide it up or down and then back to wherever you want it.
