Specs: Windows Vista
In older versions of excel, if I wanted to add two columns I used the following formula: i.e., =SUM(A4..E4)
this formula doesn't work with my current version of excel... what is the correct formual please?

That's incorrect, it's:

i.e., a colon between A4 and E4.

I have an old Excel too but I doubt they would have changed anything as basic as that.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

=SUM(A4,,E4) will work.

Note that I used commas, not periods.

The comma is used for noncontiguous ranges.

You only need 1 between each range reference, but extras won't hurt, just confuse.
