just got a new computer with vista and then installed office 2003. i want to use office picture manager as my default picture editing software. i installed software for my sony cybershot camera, but when I access pictures they open into windows photo gallery (vista default pic viewing program?) as a read only file. I want to have all of my pictures open with office picture manager, but can't find a way to do so. help was no help. can't create a shortcut to the camera because it doesn't show up in the dropdown list. any help is appreciated!

I have no experieince with Vista, but have they changed the way you set file associations? Have you tried right-clicking on one of the graphic files, selecting open with and setting the default program?
Or, open the Office Picture Manager and set associated file extensions?

if I right click on the photo, I can open it in windows photo gallery only (no "open with" option available...)and then after it opens in the windows gallery, then I have an "open with" option where I can open the photo with picture manager. that's way too many extra steps. I just want to open the camera storage up to a folder that displays the pics as thumbs, then when I double click a pic it opens in picture manager for editing. I looked around and searched help but can't find anything in picture manager that allows me to set file extensions...

I should have noticed I skipped the Shift. Shift right-click, then Open With and check the box to always use that program to open that file.

I just found it - there is a link in the start menu that says "default programs" that allows you to view file extensions and designate a program to open them with. thanks for helping jennifer!
