Unable to Open Office files from Desktop

March 8, 2010 at 10:22:26
Specs: Windows XP
I am unable to open any Office file from the desk top. When I try nothing happens (file doesn't open, I don't even get the Microsoft logo screen that appears just before Word, Excel, etc opens).

I'm able to open PDFs using Adobe and WordPerfect files with WP without any problems.

I can open Office files by first starting the appropriate program and than opening the desired file.

Try a Detect & Repair

Open Word and/or Excel
On the Task Bar
Scroll down to Detect & Repair

Also you might want make sure file type associations are correct.

Control Panel
Folder Options
Select the File Types tab
Scroll down and make sure your .dot and .xls files are properly associated with Word and Excel.
