Solved unable to delete or add worksheets in an Excel spreadsheet

March 13, 2013 at 09:17:54
Specs: Windows 7
I have an Excel 2010 file with 10 worksheets, 9 containing look-up tables and derived charts all referring to the first which has all base data.Though I could do so early-ish in its build, I can no longer delete a sheet; add a sheet; or hide or unhide a sheet. Though the individual sheets had been password protected they are no longer. Can anyone explain?

From did you get this file?
It might be Password Protected , in your Excel 2010 , open the file and click on File --> infos and see its status.

It might help if you explained what happens when you try to "delete a sheet; add a sheet; or hide or unhide a sheet".

Do you get an error? Does the application crash? Does nothing happen?

What steps are you trying and what happens when you try those steps.?

Nothing happens because the activity is greyed-out in each case: no error; no crash. What steps do you suggest trying?

Further information: it is a fairly large file with a good number of countifs statements; and there are other functions greyed out eg change tab name. Do I have a memory problem - 4g?

You're right.... though the individual sheets were not protected and the overall spreadsheet was not protected, the structure was password protected and this is not immediaterly apparent. Unfortunately,it must have been an inadvertent action because I couldn't get the password - I've just about finished rebuilding a new file from the individual sheets
