How to turn off AutoCorrect in Word 2000?
Althought it doesn't do anything (I disabled all the options) I would like to totaly turn it off.
This little book with a pencil writing on it is nerving me, for some reasons, I would like to free as much resource as possible while using Word.Any suggestion on as to free up hardware resources (clock cicle, memory...) with Word or Excell are wellcome!

You did uncheck in Word options "check spelling(and grammar below that) as you type" under the Spelling and Grammar tab?
I'm going to make a leap of faith here and suggest that you allowed Office install Typical setup? I never do that, I always install Cutom so you get to pick and choose what you yourself need.
Run Add/Remove Programs against Office (or Word and Exccel if separately installed), then use the Repair/Modify installation option. This will let you customise what is installed and remove the garbage you don;t use or want.
Ex. get rid of Accessibility options unless you have a limitation when using a computer. Get rid of any Excel Add in components you don't understand since that means you aren't using them. Maybe get rid of the Thesaurus in Word (I've never yet needed that).
And my personal pet hate.... kill that damn clippy "Helper"! I have never yet seen it do anything useful and it hogs space and intereferes with your work popping up every ten seconds! You want help - use F1 for the normal Help feature!
The rest is down to what you do with the programs, just uninstall stuff you haven't used yet, and set the options for them to "install from CD on first use" so you get prompted if they are needed in the future.

Oh and a last one.... check your Startup folder in the Start > Programs menu, see if the Office Fast Index is there? If it is then kill it - it has NO purpose since Office 95 got invented and hogs resources like a bath sponge taking in water. That thing is just a throwback to the old Win 3.x and Office 4.x and earlier, when indexing documents was essential to speed up access on otherwise slow machines.
