Hopefully someone can help me. I am trying to recover a friend's address book from outlook express or at least that is what she believes she had before her hard drive crashed. I tries searching for .wab,.dbx,.pst and even.ost just to make sure but I dont see any of those files on this drive. I used both Ontrack recovery and get data back and both programs did not find any of those files. Can it just be because the hard drive is too far gone to recover? If someone would beable to help me I would be most thankful. Thanks!!!!

Your friend should have backed up the address book/contacts to another location as a matter of good common sense when his/her PC & Outlook Express were working okay, or at the very least printed out a sheet containing the contacts information.

The hard drive cannot be "too far gone" otherwise you wouldn't be able to access it at all.
However, it's still possible that the files you are looking for have been corrupted when the drive crashed.

Lesson: always keep backups of important information!

If she had addresses cached in Outlook Express from having frequently emailed people, that would give the appearance of having an address book without actually creating one. That could explain her thinking she had setup an address book, when in reality OE was simply caching the addresses of people she received messages from, and sent messages to.
