Microsoft Excel 010 - complete package

I've been trying to work with Countif for this but have also tried CountA, Countifs, and currently a SumProduct. This manager workbook is calling data from a user workbook, the sheet is called Data, and on the Report page, I'm trying to get the Total count of all lines of data. (The rows are set with a1=Type of Review, b1=Customer Name, c1=Customer Number, d1=Date Received, e1=Analyst Name, on to H1.) All cells have a formula equaling the corresponding cell in the User Workbook where the data is input.

On the Reports ws (in the manager workbook) I need a total count of all reviews, both assigned to an analyst (column E) and unassigned but everything I've tried brings back the count with the linked cells, too.

Is there a way to allow Excel to count values and NOT anything that starts with =?
