Hi,

A company that I have been doing work for had a computer that the secretary had been using to do the bookkeeping on using Intuit's Quickbooks. The computer crashedd and I was able to revive it and all data was intact.

Obvious concerns by the owner to get a new machine arose and I provided the new machine. However, this is where the problem arises. How does one transfer the data from quickbooks from the old computer to read on the new computer? I went to quickbooks website and they were as clear as mud on a definitive answer to my question. I also called their 'support' and the only solution they had was a pay per tech support solution. I can see Intuit heading south with this type of response to customers who already shelled out a lot of money for their software.

Is their anyone out there who is familiar with this problem?

I would first search for .qbw files. I believe that's where Quickbooks stores its data.

Locate the *.qbw files on the old HD...
Copy them to some location on the new HD...

Open QB in the new computer and File > Open, point to where you saved the QBW files...

Yes...it works...

I have transferred QB files quite a few times for various clients...

It you are uncertain...make a copy of the original qbw file and copy THAT copy to the new HD...

I like to put my QB files in the My Documents folder...then when it is back up time, I just backup EVERYTHING in the My Documents folder...

Make a folder under My Documents and call it QBooks Data, or something you prefer, paste the qbw file in that folder and open Qbooks...go to File > Open and go to wher youo placed the qbw file...

Good luck
