I am using excel to calculate time sheets. I am using the formula A2-A1 and formatting the answer cell as[h]:mm and the answer gives me the time difference in hours between cells A2 and A1. Now I need to add cell A3 which contains .5 of an hour to that calculation to get my total hours worked. Sometimes cell A3 maybe .25 up to .45 of an hour. Does anyone know if this can be done in excell? Thanks

Have you tried:

Internally, Excel store dates as the integer portion of a number and the time as the decimal portion of a full day.

Excel is going to see .5 as "half a day" or 12:00 PM so you need to divide it by 24 to fool Excel into using it as an "hourly" value.
