I can't get Mozilla Thunderbird to send email through AOL mail/AIM mail I get the dialogue/nag screens with the message: Alert ! in Yellow triangle An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.. Please verify your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again. and Send Message Error ! Yellow Triangle Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.aim.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.

Are the settings correct? Does AOL indeed require authentication in order to send through their Outgoing mail server? "So won’t you give this man his wings What a shame To have to beg you to see We’re not all the same What a shame" - Shinedown

It gives me the same error messages regardless of whether the settings are correct or not AOL directions for POP3 and IMAP retrieval are to use port 587 for SMTP outgoing i guess I could try some other ports, but I don't know which ones may work 25 perhaps? ??? I'm not sure about the authentication issue
