If you are trying to get the average temperature for each year, try this...

Example:
Your dates are in A1:A10
Your temps are in B1:B10
You have a list of years in C1:C4

Put this array-entered formula in D1 and drag it down to the bottom of your list of years:

=SUMPRODUCT((YEAR($A$1:$A$10)=C1)*($B$1:$B$10))/SUM(1*(YEAR($A$1:$A$10)=C1))

Array entered means the formula is entered using Ctrl-Shift-Enter to put {} around the formula.
