Comment:

I have an ongoing problem with System Restore. My system has an ABIT KD7A with an AMD Athlon XP 1833 CPU, 60GB hard drive. I am running XPpro with Office 2003, Zone Alarm Pro and Norton System Works along with assorted software.

I am unable to use System Restore. Have been unable to ever use it as it reports from ANY System Restore point. The System Restore is enabled with the max amount of disk space usage.
Even on my old PC System Restore most often would not work.

I need to restore to a point a few weeks back, can you help a desperate guy.
Thanks, ED (eddie460) (eddie460@comcast.net

Right click on My Computer to get to the System Properties page, Click on the System Restore tab.

Is it already set to the max (slider all the way to the right)? If not then move it over a little more.
If it is already is maxed out then do you have an available restore point dated within the range you are needing?

See response number 5 at http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/135425.html by James Greenwood where he explains how to be able to view the contents of the System Volume Information folder that contains all of your Restore points.

If you locate a couple within the range you need it may (or may not) be possible to temporarily copy the entire contents of the System Volume Information folder to another folder (not the folder itself though), turn off System Restore from System Properties (this will empty all of them from the System Volume Information folder) and then copy back the files that were in the System Volume Information folder along with the folders containing the dates you need.

Hopefully you will then be able to use one of these points.

I can not experiment with this process myself as I am on a work machine.

If the above don't help then I don't know what you can do.

Anyone else in reading, please do advice if the above proposal is sound or not.
