Comment:

I'm no longer able to email documents as attachments directly from Word 2000 since the "Mail Recipient (as Attachment)" option has disappeared from the "Send to" submenu. Any ideas about how to get it back? I checked and I do appear to have several versions of Mapi32.dll in my Windows System folder.

Is Send to Mail Recipient ( as attachment ) actually not there at all, or is it greyed out ?

If greyed out, then you have a mailing conflict somewhere.

If missing, have you tried going to
View / Toolbars / Customise
and resetting the Menus back to default.

Thanks for the suggestion. Send to Mail Recipient (as attachment) was not there at all. I followed your advice, wound up dragging the "Mail Recipient (as attachment)" command into the Send to submenu, where it now it shows up greyed out. No mail conflict that I'm aware of. Wondering what to do next, how to check for conflict.

What mail client are you using ?
OE or MS Outlook ?
Maybe reinstalling your email program might help...I would think it is a problem with MAPI32.DLL...possibly a conflict if you have both OE and Outlook installed.
Is either of them set to be the default mail handler ?
Check that in IE / Tools / Internet Options / Programs tab

Thanks again, Krystyna. I use Netscape Mail and, when I checked in IE as you suggested, it was indeed registered there as the default mail handler. I think you're right about MAPI32.DLL. Everything worked fine until recently when I reintstalled Word in an attempt to fix a corrupted Normal.dot doc. The reinstallation didn't fix anything of course but a search of the MS knowledge base provided a fix that did work (renaming it old normal, etc.). Do you think it makes sense to run Detect and Repair in Word at this point or just reintstall Netscape Mail?

I think reinstalling Word must have changed the MAPI32.DLL version that Netscape needs.

How about renaming all the MAPI32.DLL files in C:\Windows\System folder

Then try reinstalling Netscape Mail first.
Do you have MS Outlook installed ?
You could also try reinstalling that.
If no joy, reinstall Netscape again after Outlook.

Best of luck

That sounds like a plan. This may take a while but I'll report back when it's completed. Thank you so much for your time and your help, Krystyna!

Had this exact problem with an XP machine. Came from a patch (update) #811439.

Don't know if a similar patch could have done the same thing here.

Sorry to barge in on Krystyna, as she really knows her stuff.

Hope it helps though.

Thanks, Larry. That's an interesting possibility as I did do a recent ME update (though I can't for the life of me remember what it was). Haven't had a chance to reinstall Netscape Mail yet so I still have the problem. How did you figure out that the bad patch knocked out the "send to mail recipient (as attachment)" command? And did it return when you uninstalled the patch?

Read about it on line somewhere. Can't remember exactly as I do a lot of surfing. Might have been PCWorld.com.

And yes, that and a whole bunch of other stuff came back after removing the patch.
